Shatter the stigma: rally for hope

10/4/2016

We are coming together as a community to shatter the stigma of addiction and bring hope of recovery. There is power in our voice, there is power in the voices of recovery. Addiction is devastating our streets and destroying lives, families. We are in the worst Health Crisis since the Aids epidemic. We need to take action. With a similar purpose and vision; to end the cycle, to end the suffering and educate the community. To discuss the importance of LANGUAGE!

We know what addiction looks like, it is all around us. It is hard to find someone that is not impacted by addiction in some way shape or form. You can look around our streets; it won’t take long spot the walking dead staggering among us. That’s addiction. What we NEED to do is show the community and those suffering what recovery looks like. Addiction IS hopeless but recovery IS NOT.

We need to stop portraying addiction in graphic, demoralizing ways. People are not their disease. We need to take a look at language and educate the greater community about the power in the voices of recovery. Individuals do recover and they become not only contributing members of society but tax payers, voters, community members. They have families, they become employable, help our communities, start their own businesses, start nonprofits, are athletes, and educators, and doctors and activists. They have a common bond and will do everything in their power to help one another stay well.
